A rusted surfboard she was able to find in a rubbish container outside her house was the catalyst for her winning a contest when she was 6. She started surfing at the age of 5 and at 6 she was the winner of her first prize. At age 7 she had a sponsorship. Her birthplace was in San Clemente California but later moved to Hawaii. As a young girl and began surfing, she started prior to her move from California to Hawaii. She was the winner of her first surfing competition at the age six using an old surfboard she had found outside of her house. At the age of 16, Ashley was a participant in the NSSA National championship. She received the Triple Crown Rookie of the Year award in 2003. Ashley has also received titles such as two National Scholastic Surfing Association and Professional Surfing Tour of America Championships. Ashley was the winner of the 2010 Pipeline Women's Pro in Hawaii. Ashley ranks 59th in this year's Women's Qualification Series.
